Love & Relationships

Love is a historical creation. The ideology began in the minds of poets and artists around 1750 in the age of Romanticism. Before marriage was subject to inhibiting forces like economic, familial and religious boundaries. You were told with whom to build a family. Today our modern understanding of love is built on the principle of freedom of choice. This means we generally enjoy the freedom to form a relationship with exactly whom we like.

But how do we know who is the right partner?

  • It’s a fact: Switzerland's divorce rate currently stands at around 40 percent, with the average marriage ending in a breakup lasting 15 years. The OFS estimates that two in every five marriages will end in divorce at some point.
  • What’s interesting: We study to become a surgeon, an accountant, a teacher…but we fall into relationships and parenthood blue-eyed, unprepared, trusting mostly in our romantic feelings and leaving it to destiny if it works out or not.
